COVINGTON CATHOLIC BASEBALL

The Colonels are starting to round out into form after a 5-0 week last week with wins over Boone County (4-1), Highlands (7-4), Campbell County (9-2), Bishop Brossart (8-6) and St. Henry (7-3).
The five wins plus another against Conner on Monday improves them to 15-4 on the year and the second best record in the Ninth Region currently.
CovCath had some big performances at the plate whether it was Marcus Suwinski’s two-homer game with six RBI against Campbell County or the multi-hit games from Jonathan Fitz, Charlie Dieruf, Max Lawrie, Jackson Reardon or Owen Leen.
Pitching was also at a premium, Chris Young, Bradley Zekl, Suwinski, Leen and Ben McEvoy all picking up wins.
The Colonels hope to continue their winning streak that currently sits at six games when they next hit the field on Wednesday at Cooper.
SIMON KENTON BASEBALL

The Pioneers capped off a 5-0 week by winning the David Iery Invitational, knocking off the host Tigers, 10-9 in the championship game. Prior to that, Simon Kenton started off the week with wins over Cooper (14-4), Dixie Heights (7-2), Williamstown (8-4) and Southern (13-2) in the first game of the Iery Invitational.
The offensive production was spread around throughout the week as they tallied 52 runs while Anthony Procaccino and Gavin Riley were standouts on the mound, Procaccino pitched a complete-game four-hitter against Dixie Heights while Riley threw six innings of one hit baseball against Williamstown.
Evan Sheridan, Logan Cones, Riley, Bailey Rump, Dakota Brown and Daniel Uhl all had mult-hit games during the week, per the stats provided on the KHSAA website. The game against Southern was not available at the time this was written.
The Pioneers are currently 14-6 on the season and can clinch the No. 1 seed in the 32nd District with a win over Grant County on Thursday.
CAMPBELL COUNTY TRACK AND FIELD

Campbell County swept the Campbell County Carnes Camel Classic on Saturday, beating out nine boys teams and 10 boys teams.
The boys team scored a 171.5, edging out Bishop Brossart by seven. The girls team scored a 161, defeating Brossart by 25.5.
The boys team had xx first-place finishers. They were: Deion Keller (pole vault, 12-0), 4×800 relay team (8:50.63), Tate Glass (400 meters, 54.28), Tate Glass (200 meters, 24.05), Aiden Bauer (3,200 meters, 11:07.52), Hunter Wiseman (shot put, 43-3.75) and Hunter Wiseman (discus, 130-2).
The girls team had seven first-place finishers. They were: Abigale Bauer (pole vault, 8-06), 4×800 relay team (10:18.85), Neveah Marcum-Gillespie (100 meter hurdles, 17.26), Olivia Holbrook (1,600 meters, 5:10.78), Olivia Holbrook (800 meters, 2:26.95), Lila Dunlevy (3,200 meters, 12:45.61), Ava Day (triple jump, 32-5.5) and Haylie Lamb (discus, 101-02).
WALTON-VERONA SOFTBALL

Walton-Verona continued to stay hot last week as they went 3-0 and rattled off a five-game winning streak. The Bearcats got wins over Newport Central Catholic (6-2), Augusta (19-1) and Calvary Christian (7-4) to improve to 6-8 on the season.
After winning just one of their first nine games, they’ve turned things around to get within two games of .500. They’ve scored 71 runs in the five games and allowed 14 runs in the same span. Demi Lovan had a big game in the circle against Calvary Christian, striking out eight.
Lovan won NCKC Player of the Week in the week before when Walton-Verona had wins over Newport and Dayton.
