NKY players/former coach rack up awards at Mr. and Miss Basketball Ceremony

While North Laurel’s Reed Sheppard and Rowan County’s Haven Ford took home Mr. and Miss Kentucky basketball awards, plenty of NKY players and a former coach were also recognized during the dinner reception.

Awards were handed out for regular season stat leaders which included Holy Cross senior Jacob Meyer leading the state in scoring for the second straight year. Meyer finished with 36.8 points per game, scoring 1,067 points in 29 games during his senior campaign.

Simon Kenton’s Gabe Dynes led the state in field goal percentage among those who qualified, hitting 74% of his shot attempts for the Pioneers in his senior campaign, making 179-of-242 attempts.

Notre Dame’s Noelle Hubert led the state in 3-point shooting, knocking down 107-of-285 attempts, good for 37.5%.

The Ralph M. Beard Lifetime Achievement Award was handed out to Doug Schloemer. Schloemer led Holmes to the 1978 Sweet 16 where they finished runner-up to Shelby County and he was later named Mr. Basketball that season. Schloemer went on to play at the University of Cincinnati.

The “Founders” Coaching Award was given to Mike Listerman, the longtime Covington Catholic basketball coach. Listerman coached 17 seasons, his first stint at Harrison County and then 11 seasons with the Colonels before closing his career out at Holmes for four seasons. Listerman won over 300 games as a head coach and devoted a lot of time to the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Bluegrass-Buckeye Charity Classic Basketball game, raising money for local charities.

The 2023 Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball Awards Ceremony presented by The Madden Foundation was held on Sunday at the Lexington Griffin Gate Marriott Resort.
