The girls’ 10th Region Basketball Coaches Association released their All-Region teams on Thursday with Bishop Brossart’s Steve Brown named the Coach of the Year in the region.

Brown, in his first season with the Lady ‘Stangs, has guided Brossart to a 19-11 record and the 10th Region All “A” championship. They concluded their regular season schedule on Wednesday against Conner and will face Campbell County in the first round of the 37th District Tournament on Monday as they look to 3-peat as district champs.

Brossart is 8-3 in region play and went 1-1 in the 37th as they try to avenge an early season loss to Campbell. The other two losses in region play came to Pendleton County and Montgomery County. The Lady ‘Stangs won their first round game at the All “A” state tournament against Jackson County before losing to eventual runner-up Bethlehem in the quarterfinals.

A win over the Camels on Monday would match their win total from last season when they finished 20-11. Brown came over from Scott High, where he coached the prior three seasons for the Eagles. Brown has coached both boys and girls high school basketball for over 30 years. He started his coaching career in the early 1980’s at Beechwood and has stops at Campbell County, Boone County, St. Henry, Scott and now Brossart. Brown won the 2021 Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches 10th Region Coach of the Year at Scott.

The girls 10th Region Player of the Year was George Rogers Clark’s Ciara Byars. The Cardinals sophomore leads the region in scoring with 18.2 points per game, second in field goal percentage among those who qualify at 49%, eighth in rebounding with 8.2 rebounds per game and tied for eighth in blocked shots per game with 1.2 as the Cardinals look to win their sixth region title in the last seven seasons.

Byars headlines the first team All-Region along with her older sister Brianna Byars, who is committed to the University of Cincinnati. Rounding out the rest of the first team are Montgomery County’s Hayden Barrier, Paris senior Sanaa Jackson and Pendleton County’s Saniah Thomas.

The second team is made up of Paris senior Jamie Cowan, Bracken County’s Nicole Archibald, Montgomery County’s Allie Dillon, Bishop Brossart’s Molly Kramer and Nicholas County’s Maggie Simons.

The third team consists of Bourbon County’s Laiken Hardin, St. Patrick’s Caroline McKay, Harrison County’s Caroline VanHook, Pendleton County’s Cara Stewart and George Rogers Clark’s Kennedy Stamper.
