HOLY CROSS INDIANS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM

The Indians may have had one of the best starts to the new year of any team around. Not only did the Indians win the 9th region All “A” classic, but they outscored their three opponents in the tournament by an average of 31 points. Holy Cross was led by junior Julia Hunt, who averaged 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds throughout the tournament and was named MVP. Aleah Arlinghaus and Nejai Lewis were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts as well. The team will head down to Richmond for the All “A” state tournament with their first game being scheduled for Wednesday, Jan.25 at 8:30 a.m. against the winner of the 14th region.
RYLE RAIDERS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM

The Raiders also began their year with a bang. This past week they defeated two of the top 10 teams in the region in Highlands and Dixie Heights. But that wasn’t all, on Saturday the Raiders defeated the No. 3 team in the 11th region, Frederick Douglass. Senior guard Abby Holtman and Junior forward Quinn Eubank both averaged over 15 points over the three-game stretch.
CONNER COUGARS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM

After a 2-3 start, the Conner Cougars have turned a corner. This past week the Cougars knocked off Holy Cross 82-62 and followed that up with a 79-60 win over Campbell County. The Cougars have relied on the three-point line, hitting 27 three-pointers in the past two games. The Cougars are led by four seniors Dalton Kramer, Landen Hamilton, Ayden Lohr, and Daniel Campbell who are all averaging double-digit points this season. All four shoot right at or above 45 percent from deep.
WALTON-VERONA BEARCATS WRESTLING TEAM

The Bearcats won the Sectional Duels tournament on Saturday at Newport High School. In a field that consisted of Walton-Verona, Newport, Covington Catholic, Holmes and Western, the top two teams advanced to the KYWCA/KHSAA State Duals on January 28.
Walton-Verona defeated Newport 72-6 in the first round, Covington Catholic 49-12 in the second round, Western 66-12 in the third round and 51-24 over Holmes to win the sectional championship and all four matches.
They now qualify for Duel State on January 28 at Nelson County.
