The LINK nky Team of the Week is the Simon Kenton High School Lady Pioneers basketball team.
Simon Kenton started the 2022-23 season off 2-0 with wins over Owen County (69-47) and an impressive win over Ryle (67-52).
Simon Kenton did it with balanced scoring as four players averaged in double figures in the two games. They were led by Rylie Flynn with 17.5 points per game. Anna Kelch averaged 15.5, Brynli Pernell 12.0 and senior Emilee Eggleston with 11.0. The youth of the team was on display, Flynn a sophomore, Kelch a freshman and Pernell an eighth grader.
Under first-year coach Brenden Stowers, Simon Kenton knocked down 15 three-pointers in the two games and hit 68 percent of their free throw attempts. They followed up the opening week by going 2-1 to improve to 4-1 at the Billy Hicks Classic in Georgetown and claiming fifth place in the tournament. Flynn and Pernell have paced the team early on through the first five games, averaging 13.4 and 12.0 points per game, respectively.

Our weekly honor is open to all local sports teams at all levels, from youth to recreational to high school to college to pro and beyond.
