The nominations are in for the third LINK nky Team of the Week competition.

To be the winning team, fan votes play a heavy role, along with consideration from our sports team here at LINK.

Nominations are reader-submitted or recommended by our sports team. Our Team of the Week program honors all local sports at all levels, whether it’s youth- or adult-oriented recreation, high school or college, professional or amateur.

This week’s nominated teams are listed below with some information provided by the submitter. The poll where you can vote follows at the end of the article.

DAYTON HIGH SCHOOL GREENDEVILS FOOTBALL

The Greendevils lost a close one last Friday night and face a tough challenge this week, too, when Bracken Co. visits, but the 2-3 Dayton football team is not without its highlights. Our submitter noted the defensive performance of junior Eric Simpson, who leads the team in tackles.

COOPER HIGH SCHOOL JAGUARS GIRLS SOCCER

The Jaguars’ five-game stretched into last week as Cooper found itself hot as the regular season nears its end. Cooper is 10-4-1 on the season (as of 9/21). Our submitter noted that the Lady Jags traveled to Conner last week and knocked off the Cougars, one of the state’s top teams, and clinching a number-one seed in the district.

COVINGTON CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL COLONELS FOOTBALL

Covington Catholic now has a winning streak longer than Beechwood’s. The Colonels snapped the Tigers’ 27-game unbeaten streak last Friday with a 31-14 win at home in Park Hills. Cov Cath has won four straight to improve to 4-1 on the year. Our submitter notes that the Colonels held the Beechwood offense to negative rushing yards, while Colonel Owen Leen led Cov Cath with 150 rushing yards on 37 carries.
