Dontaie Allen has officially traded his blue and white for red and black, the same colors he wore in high school starring for the Pendleton County Wildcats.
The former Kentucky Wildcat announced today via Twitter that he is committing to play for Western Kentucky University, led by Head Coach Rick Stansbury. Allen will have three years of NCAA eligibility left due to medically redshirting his freshman year, gaining an extra year of eligibility from the COVID-19 pandemic, and the NCAA’s new transfer eligibility policies.
Allen will join Kentucky natives Jamarion Sharp of Hopkinsville and Dayvion McKnight of Shelbyville as key contributors for next seasons Hilltoppers.
Allen decided to transfer from the University of Kentucky, where has played the last three seasons, on March 24.
According to Sam McClanahan of the Falmouth Outlook, Stansbury and an assistant coach were spotted dining at Howard’s Place in Falmouth for lunch just days after Allen announced his decision to transfer from UK.
Allen, a native of Falmouth, KY, averaged 2.2 points per game, 1.2 rebounds, and 0.3 assists in 17 games last season for the Wildcats. Allen averaged 6.4 minutes per game, falling out of the rotation towards the end of the season.
Allen is one of the most prolific scorers in the history of Kentucky high school basketball. Allen won Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball Award in 2019 starring for the Pendleton County Wildcats. Allen scored 3,255 career points in high school. He averaged 42.9 points per game in his senior season before it was cut short due to a torn ACL. Allen also snagged 1,228 career rebounds, averaging 14.2 per game during his senior season.
