The Simon Kenton Pioneers (1-1 overall) scored three times in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to down the Cooper Jaguars (0-1) at Thomas More Stadium on Friday.

The varsity game took place first with rain moving into the area later in the evening. Cooper outhit Simon Kenton, 11-5. But the Pioneers committed no errors and took advantage of five from the Jaguars.

Junior Ben Stephens took the mound in the fourth inning and pitched through the sixth to earn the win for the Pioneers. He struck out three and allowed one earned run. Sophomore Logan Cones pitched the seventh allowing one hit.

The Pioneers did not have any players with multi-hits. But senior Tom Lind had an inside the park home run. Sophomore Daniel Uhl tripled for the Pioneers with juniors Ben Stephens and Ian Powell recording doubles. Powell scored two runs.

Senior Corbin Fletcher and sophomore Mark Nowak had two hits for the Jaguars. Junior James Crowe added a triple.

Simon Kenton travels to Bellevue on Wednesday. Game time is 5:30 p.m. Cooper takes on Boone County on March 25 at 5:30 p.m.
