Bluebirds Play Host to Beechwood on Monday

The Highlands Bluebirds baseball team (18-14 overall) could not keep its five-game winning streak going in a 5-3 loss at Dixie Heights (21-11) on Friday.

Highlands took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third. Senior Braden Becker singled in senior Jake Gulley before junior Camden McAtee scored on a wild pitch.

But the Colonels scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to make the final score. Dixie Heights batted .348 (8-for-23) compared to .154 (4-for-26) for the visiting Bluebirds.

Gulley led Highlands at the plate going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Senior Owen Carris had a double.

Senior John Barth started the game for the Bluebirds on the mound and pitched five innings. He struck out three, walked three and allowed eight hits and five earned runs. Junior Jonah Hankins pitched the sixth and struck out all three batters.

Highlands plays host to Beechwood on Monday. Game time is 5 p.m.
