Ribbon Cutting with Covington

From Eastern Kentucky Roots to Covington Business Owner: Vicky McIntosh Is Building a Legacy of Her Own

Former teacher, mother and grandmother opens a Northern Kentucky real estate brokerage and earns local recognition less than two months after its grand opening.

COVINGTON, Ky. — For Vicky McIntosh, the founder and principal broker of Legacy Key Property Management & Real Estate, LLC, success is about more than opening a business. It’s about where she came from, the obstacles she has overcome and the legacy she hopes to leave for her children and grandchildren.

On September 3, 2026, McIntosh celebrated the grand opening of Legacy Key at 140 W. Pike Street in Covington. Less than two months later, the company received recognition as one of Covington’s Top 3 Property Management Companies in the October 2026 BusinessRate awards.

For McIntosh, 40, the recognition represents another milestone in a life shaped by perseverance, education, family and entrepreneurship.

From Humble Beginnings to Big Dreams

Raised in Eastern Kentucky, McIntosh’s journey to becoming a business owner was anything but traditional.

Her life required her to grow up quickly. She left home at just 15 years old and married at 16, taking on adult responsibilities at an age when many teenagers are still discovering who they want to become.

Yet even during the most difficult chapters, she held on to her belief that life could become something more.

McIntosh’s early experiences shaped the woman, mother and business owner she would eventually become. Rather than allowing her circumstances to determine her future, she continued building toward a better one.

A Teacher Who Never Stopped Learning

Education became a defining part of McIntosh’s journey.

She earned her master’s degree in education in 2023 and spent four years teaching high school English in Powell County, Kentucky.

Teaching gave her the opportunity to encourage students to believe in themselves, recognize their potential and understand that their backgrounds did not have to limit their futures.

Although her career eventually took a different direction, the lessons from the classroom continue to influence her approach to business.

Communication, patience, accountability and building relationships remain central to the way she works with property owners, tenants and homebuyers.

Building a Career in Northern Kentucky

After relocating to Northern Kentucky in 2023, McIntosh expanded her real estate career, working as a REALTOR® with Huff Realty while also gaining hands-on experience in property management.

She later served as an office manager for a Northern Kentucky property management company, overseeing leasing, property operations, owner communications and other aspects of residential property management.

Her experience exposed her to the challenges property owners face and the importance of having a management company that prioritizes communication, transparency and personal service.

In August 2026, she reached another professional milestone by earning her Kentucky principal broker license.

With years of experience behind her, McIntosh decided it was time to create something of her own.

The Birth of Legacy Key

Legacy Key Property Management & Real Estate officially celebrated its grand opening on September 3, 2026, in Covington.

The locally owned brokerage provides residential property management, tenant placement, leasing, rental oversight, investor services and residential real estate sales throughout Northern Kentucky.

Its mission is reflected in the company’s tagline:

“Protecting Investments. Opening Doors. Building Relationships. Creating Legacies.”

For McIntosh, the name Legacy Key was intentional.

The company represents her belief that real estate is about more than properties or transactions. Homes provide stability for families, rental properties help investors build long-term financial security, and strong relationships create opportunities that extend across generations.

As a small-business owner, she hopes to bring a personal approach to an industry where property owners and tenants sometimes feel like just another number.

An Early Recognition for a New Business

On October 28, McIntosh celebrated an important milestone: Legacy Key’s recognition among Covington’s Top 3 Property Management Companies through BusinessRate’s October 2026 awards.

The recognition came less than two months after the brokerage’s ribbon-cutting celebration.

For a recently established company competing in an established local market, it was a meaningful moment.

McIntosh credits the support of clients, community members and those who have encouraged her throughout the journey.

While the recognition marks an exciting beginning, she remains focused on growing a business built around reliable service, transparency and lasting relationships.

More Than an Entrepreneur

Outside the office, McIntosh is a wife, mother and grandmother.

Family has played a central role in her life, and becoming a grandmother has added another dimension to her understanding of what it means to leave a legacy.

She is also involved in Driven Automotive, a family-owned automotive repair business in Florence, Kentucky.

Balancing business ownership, family responsibilities and professional growth has required determination and sacrifice.

Her story reflects the experiences of many women who have built careers while simultaneously raising families, overcoming personal challenges and returning to education.

Encouraging Other Women to Believe in Their Dreams

McIntosh hopes her journey encourages other women, particularly young mothers and women who may feel that they missed their opportunity to pursue an education, change careers or start a business.

At 40 years old, she is beginning an exciting new chapter rather than settling into the one she had already built.

Her story is a reminder that success does not have to follow a traditional timeline.

From a young girl growing up in Eastern Kentucky to a high school teacher, real estate broker and Northern Kentucky business owner, McIntosh continues building a life that once may have seemed out of reach.

And while her company is still in its early stages, her vision extends far beyond the storefront on Pike Street.

For McIntosh, Legacy Key isn’t simply a business name.

It’s a promise to keep opening doors, building relationships and creating a legacy that will last beyond her own lifetime.
