The City of Florence Police Department is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to clean out their medicine cabinets and safely dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications at either of two convenient Florence collection locations:
City of Florence Government Center – North Parking Lot
Florence Police Department
8100 Ewing Boulevard
Florence, KY 41042
Florence Kroger Marketplace
7685 Mall Road
Florence, KY 41042
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day provides a free, convenient and anonymous way to dispose of medications that are no longer needed. Proper disposal helps prevent prescription drug misuse and keeps medications from being accidentally or intentionally used by someone for whom they were not prescribed.
The DEA and its law enforcement partners will accept tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Since the program began, Take Back Day events have removed millions of pounds of medications from circulation nationwide.
Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps or illicit drugs. Liquid medications, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original containers with the caps tightly secured to prevent leakage.
