Northern Kentucky Water District (NKWD) is recognizing “Imagine a Day Without Water” on October 15, a national day of action from the American Water Works Association, that highlights the essential role water plays in daily life and the importance of investing in reliable water infrastructure.
From preparing meals and making morning coffee to caring for patients in hospitals and supporting local businesses, access to clean, reliable drinking water is fundamental to the health, safety and prosperity of communities. A disruption in water service would affect nearly every aspect of daily life, underscoring the importance of maintaining and investing in the infrastructure that delivers this essential resource.
“Water is something we rely on every day, often without giving much thought to the infrastructure and people that make it possible,” said NKWD President/CEO Lindsey Rechtin. “Maintaining a reliable water system takes ongoing investment, thoughtful planning and a commitment to the communities we serve. We’re focused on strengthening our system today while ensuring it continues to meet the needs of Northern Kentucky for generations to come.”
Expanding access to public water service has been an important part of that commitment. Since 1992, NKWD has initiated 16 water main extension projects through its subdistrict program, extending more than 100 miles of water main and bringing public water service to more than 4,000 customers in Campbell and Kenton Counties. These projects help extend access to reliable drinking water to communities and households that previously lacked public water service.
Imagine a Day Without Water encourages individuals, businesses and communities to consider what life would look like without water and recognize the importance of protecting and investing in water systems for future generations.
