Thank you for celebrating our first year!

FLORENCE, KY – October 15, 2026 – Perspectives: Skills for Life, a Northern Kentucky nonprofit is celebrating a remarkable milestone: one year of helping teens and young adults with developmental differences build confidence, develop essential life skills, form meaningful relationships, and prepare for greater independence.
Since opening its doors on October 15, 2025, Perspectives has welcomed 150 teens and young adults, providing individualized programming and opportunities designed to help participants thrive at home, in their communities, and in the workforce.

What began as a vision to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where individuals with developmental differences could learn, grow, and reach their fullest potential has become a vital resource for families throughout Northern Kentucky and the surrounding areas.

“One year ago, we opened our doors with a vision and a tremendous amount of hope,” said Deb Geers, Executive Director of Perspectives: Skills for Life. “Today, we have the privilege of watching that vision come to life every single day. We have seen friendships develop, confidence grow, new skills mastered, and young people accomplish things they once thought were out of reach. Watching these individuals discover their abilities and take meaningful steps toward independence has been an extraordinary gift.”

Perspectives serves individuals with developmental differences, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and intellectual disabilities. Through evidence-based programming, individualized instruction, and real-world experiences, the organization addresses critical needs that often extend beyond traditional educational and support services.

Its programs focus on five essential areas of growth:
• Social Skills and Relationships: Helping individuals develop communication skills, build friendships, navigate social situations, and establish meaningful connections through the PEERS® program.
• Independent Living Skills: Teaching practical skills such as cooking, budgeting, personal care, organization, and household management through the Surviving and Thriving in the Real World (STRW) program.
• Executive Functioning: Strengthening planning, time management, organization, flexibility, emotional regulation, and self-advocacy through the FOCUS program.
• Job Readiness and Workforce Preparation: Preparing individuals for meaningful employment through career exploration, workplace communication, job readiness training, and hands-on experiences through the LAUNCH program.
• Community Engagement and Social Opportunities: Creating opportunities for participants to build friendships, practice skills, develop confidence, and experience a sense of belonging.

The organization’s impact reaches beyond the individuals participating in its programs. Perspectives also work closely with families, educators, community organizations, and local employers to create a network of support and opportunities for teens and young adults as they transition toward greater independence.
“One of the greatest needs we see is continued support as individuals move through adolescence and into adulthood,” Geers explained. “Our goal is not simply to teach a skill during a session. It is to help individuals take those skills into their homes, workplaces, and communities so they can experience greater independence, develop lasting relationships, and lead fulfilling lives.”

The success of Perspectives’ first year has been made possible through the generosity of donors, sponsors, community partners, dedicated staff, volunteers, and families who believe in the organization’s mission.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Northern Kentucky community for embracing Perspectives,” Geers added. “To our families, thank you for trusting us with your incredible teens and young adults. To our donors, sponsors, and community partners, thank you for believing in what we are building. Most importantly, to the individuals we serve, thank you for inspiring us every day. You are the heart of Perspectives and the reason we do this work.”

“Our first year has shown us what is possible when a community comes together and believes in the potential of every individual,” said Geers. “We have accomplished so much, but we are just getting started. Our commitment is to continue opening doors, creating opportunities, and empowering teens and young adults with developmental differences to build the futures they deserve.”

As Perspectives enters its second year, the organization is focused on expanding opportunities for participants, strengthening workforce partnerships, increasing access to programming, and continuing to meet the growing needs of families throughout the region.
