Ryle High School Graduate Morgan Poe Named Top Recipient of National Breast Cancer Family Scholarship
The Union, Kentucky senior was chosen from almost 400 applicants nationwide and receives $1,000 toward her dental hygiene degree at the University of Louisville.

Walton, Kentucky. 08-12-2026. Morgan Poe of Union, Kentucky, a 2026 graduate of Larry A. Ryle High School, has been named the top recipient of the first annual FITBODY Pink Breast Cancer Family Scholarship. She was selected from almost 400 applications submitted by graduating seniors across the country and receives a $1,000 award toward her studies in dental hygiene at the University of Louisville.
The scholarship recognizes graduating high school seniors who helped hold their families together while a parent went through breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. After her mother, a single parent, was diagnosed, Poe took on the running of the household, cared for her younger sister, and supported her mother through surgical recovery. She went on to volunteer weekly at St. Elizabeth Hospital, where she most often works with patients being discharged.
“I may not have been able to rid the cancer, but I prayed and supported my mom in all the ways I could,” Poe wrote in her application essay. “When I look back on struggles in my life, instead of only seeing them as hardships I have faced, I see them as moments that I found my true self and purpose.”
“Her essay is the one I kept coming back to,” said Julie Lohre, founder of FITBODY Pink® and a two-time breast cancer survivor. “I have been on the receiving end of that kind of support. It matters far more than the person giving it ever realizes at the time.”
Poe carried a 4.727 grade point average at Ryle and competed on the school golf team, placing in the top five at her regional tournament as a senior. She begins at the University of Louisville this fall.

The FITBODY Pink Breast Cancer Family Scholarship supports graduating high school seniors whose parent or guardian has been diagnosed with breast cancer. It was founded by Julie Lohre, an IFBB Fitness Pro, Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer, and two-time breast cancer survivor who has coached women for more than 20 years. Lohre was first diagnosed during her son’s senior year of high school, and again during his sophomore year of college. FITBODY Pink is an online fitness and nutrition coaching program for women rebuilding their strength after breast cancer treatment.
