Florence Fire/EMS is now accepting applications for its 2026 Citizen Fire Academy, an interactive 10-week program designed to give community members an inside look at the fire and emergency medical services that protect the City of Florence.
The academy will be held every Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., beginning September 2 and concluding November 4, 2026, at Florence Fire/EMS Station 34, 8101 Dream Street, Florence, Kentucky.
The Citizen Fire Academy provides participants with a behind-the-scenes experience of modern fire and EMS operations. Through classroom presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and interactive training, attendees will gain a greater understanding of the responsibilities, challenges, and professionalism required of today’s firefighters and paramedics.
Throughout the program, participants will learn about a variety of topics, including:
• Fire suppression operations
• Emergency medical services
• Technical rescue
• Hazardous materials response
• Fire prevention and life safety education
• Fire investigations
• Communications and 911 dispatch
• Emergency preparedness
• Specialized equipment and apparatus
Participants will also have opportunities to engage in hands-on activities such as operating firefighting equipment, learning basic rescue techniques, observing emergency vehicles and equipment, and interacting with Florence Fire/EMS personnel.
The academy is open to adults 18 years of age and older who live, work, or have an interest in the Florence community. There is no cost to participate; however, class size is limited, and participants will be selected based on available space.
