Camp Kit, A Creative Project Camp for Teens Ages 11-18

COVINGTON, KY: Artmarkit is hosting their first Camp Kit: The Creative Exchange summer camp for local youth in Northern Kentucky. Creativity flows both ways in this camp: campers learn from the community and the community receives art, stories, and creative energy in return. At the core of Camp Kit is a creative exchange between youth artists and local businesses and creatives. It is a chance for youth to make art with the community, not just for it.

While the structure stays consistent for each week, the places campers visit change each session, offering new inspiration every time. Some of the community partners joining as part of the creative exchange are: Olla, Gutierrez Deli, USAMEX Tienda, BLDG, Be Concerned, Julie’s Consignment, the Hellmann Creative Center, Golden Gelato, and Tienda Latina Greenup.

Whether it’s designing a flag for a corner store, creating a zine for a restaurant, or upcycling fashion to highlight sustainable style, campers leave with a sense of accomplishment and a stronger connection to their community. Youth are leading the charge as creative partners to local businesses, bringing fresh ideas and energy that help tell Covington’s story from their own perspective.

“I want young people to develop a stronger sense of their place in Covington: to see how they fit into the fabric of this city. By giving them access to the people and places shaping Covington right now, we’re helping them imagine a future here and build their inner confidence,” said Katie “Kit” Threet Kroeger, Artmarkit’s owner and operator. “When youth are exposed to new ideas and new people, they can begin to envision real pathways for their creative future and recognize just how essential they are to Covington’s story.”
