MCDANIEL VISITS CHILDREN’S
HOME OF NORTHERN KENTUCKY

FRANKFORT, KY (Sept. 27, 2024) – Senate Budget Chair Sen. Chris McDaniel, R-Ryland Heights, made another stop on his tour of critical organizations that received transformative funding through the 2024 state budget, visiting the Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky (CHNK) in Covington.

CHNK Behavioral Health is a trauma-informed healthcare organization focused on creating holistic and innovative partnerships for health and wellness. CHNK envisions a community free from adverse environments and childhood experiences that limit hope and opportunity, is safe, acknowledges human emotion and loss, and empowers future possibilities.

McDaniel and the Kentucky General Assembly secured $6 million for CHNK for facility upgrades. Wurth and members of the CHNK team provided McDaniel with a firsthand view of this critical funding in action.

Funds will be invested strategically to serve more youth and families in northern Kentucky—and throughout the commonwealth—including a new outpatient center in Williamstown, according to CNKY CEO Rick Wurth. The center will increase access to care not only for residents of Grant County but also surrounding counties, including Owen, Pendleton, Gallatin, and Carroll.

The $6 million investment will also support digital-first strategies, such as telehealth capabilities and AI technologies, to better serve rural areas and the progression of cutting-edge therapies, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation, to meet individual needs. CHNK will further evolve partnerships in the community to drive workforce development in concert with the state’s Healthcare Workforces Investment Fund stemming from House Bill 200. Finally, some funds are earmarked to modernize residential treatment facilities for youth.

“It is absolutely refreshing to see our local and state leaders advocating for an easier path to mental health in this current moment where youth and families are struggling significantly,” said Wurth. “CHNK has been nurtured and supported by the current administration and by our local elected officials in ways that transcend ‘politics as usual,’ resulting in Kentucky youth and families receiving services when and where they are needed.

“Sen. McDaniel’s commitment to serving Northern Kentucky has brought about monumental advancements in commerce, health care, education, and the list goes on. Having him on the CHNK campus today marked a historic milestone for improving the quality of life for youth and families.

CHNK has been a part of the region for over 140 years. Visit CHNK.org for more information.

“It’s been a real joy to visit incredible organizations like CHNK over the past couple of weeks to witness firsthand how the taxpayer dollars we allocated are being put to beneficial use,” McDaniel said. “I’m grateful to Rick and the entire team at CHNK for the incredible work they do and will do for children in our region.”
