The Independence Police Department is seeking about $130,000 in grant funding from the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security to outfit the department with rifles. The Independence City Council voted on the measure at a special meeting Monday night.
“Right now we’re looking at outfitting the entire department with new rifles that are fully equipped,” said Independence Captain Mike Brock.
The grant award isn’t guaranteed, and there was little discussion among the city council members on Monday. The motion to apply for the grant passed unanimously.
