What child doesn’t love being celebrated on their birthday?
Unfortunately, not all kids in our community have the privilege of enjoying this special day.
To address this, two home renovators, Scott Liming and UC alum Jake Calvert, are organizing an open house fundraising event on Friday, July 19, to raise awareness and support for “We Love Birthday Parties,” a nonprofit dedicated to spreading joy through birthday celebrations for needy and underprivileged children who have never experienced the joy of a birthday party.
Liming states, “Underprivileged children have always pulled at my heartstrings, having grown up as a child with limited resources. Now, being a father makes it much more important to me for every child to be looked after and cherished financially and emotionally.”
The 4,400-square-foot home, beautifully restored and professionally staged by Loveland Curated Fine Furnishings, will be utilized as the event space. Attendees will experience an eclectic mix of modern and antique furnishings and original art by local artists, all of which will be available for purchase to support the nonprofit.
Calvert, a graduate of the UC Lindner College of Business is an active alum who remains a member of the UC Investment Club, a group that meets regularly to discuss investment trends and best practices. The nonprofit is personal for Calvert as his mother, Shelly, founded the organization, “I was raised with a spirit to serve. As I got older, I chose to use the entrepreneurial mindset and education UC afforded me to give back to the community and support my mom who gives of her love and time to make a difference in the lives of these children.”
The open house fundraising event will take place on July 19th, from 7 PM to 10 PM, at 1002 Marion Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45229, in a beautifully restored 4,400-square-foot home.
• Silent Auction: Attendees can bid on various exciting items, including original art, a spa package, custom handmade jewelry, gift baskets from local businesses, a signed Reds baseball and bobblehead, design services, and more.
• All proceeds from the silent auction will go directly to support “We Love Birthday Parties.”
Each month, approximately 250 children ranging in age from 1 to 18 celebrate their birthdays through the organization. In addition to these parties, the nonprofit also provides take-home “Birthday Boxes” to CASA/GAL and foster children through Seeds of Hope. These boxes enable families with limited resources to celebrate birthdays at home, ensuring that every child feels valued and loved.
“Many of the children we serve have never heard encouraging words or experienced the joy of a birthday celebration. We believe every child deserves to feel special and know that they matter,” said Shelly Calvert, founder of We Love Birthday Parties. “Our mission is to breathe life and hope into these kids and let them know they were created for a purpose.”
