Attorney General Daniel Cameron, the Republican nominee for governor, will hold a campaign event in Newport Thursday.
The event is part of “Moms for Daniel Cameron.” It’s Cameron’s first official campaign event in NKY since appearing in Boone County in June.
It’s also the first event in the region since Cameron backed out of NKY’s Freedom Fest, organized by former attorney and gubernatorial candidate Eric Deters after the latter’s racial comments.
Northern Kentucky’s Congressman Rep. Thomas Massie questioned Cameron’s attendance at the event.
The move comes after some have called Deters out for making disparaging comments and using racial slurs in videos that he posts on Youtube.
“Daniel Cameron’s decision not to attend FreedomFest demonstrates sound judgment, and I encourage 4th District Republicans to support Cameron this November and vote (Gov. Andy) Beshear out of office,” Massie said to LINK nky.
In rare bipartisanship, Gov. Andy Beshear also agreed with Massie over his condemnation of Deters’ remarks. Â
The event in Newport will be held at 828 The Turn, 828 Monmouth Street, at 10:00 a.m. on Aug. 3.Â
