Wil Schroder, current senior counsel to Kentucky’s Attorney General, former two-term state senator, and felony prosecutor, announced his candidacy for Campbell County Attorney.

Currently serving as Senior Counsel to Attorney General Russell Coleman, Schroder plays a role in “protecting Kentucky families, overseeing the commonwealth’s opioid abatement commission, and working with prosecutors across the commonwealth,” per a press release from Schroder’s campaign.

Schroder previously served two terms in the Kentucky State Senate, representing Campbell County. In Frankfort, he led the Senate Economic Development Committee. In the release, his campaign said that, “Schroder championed legislation to tackle the drug crisis, ‘Back the Blue,’ and cut Kentuckians’ taxes. He was a consistent voice for public safety, law enforcement, and taxpayers.”

In 2019, the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police selected Schroder for the Outstanding Legislative Service Award for his support of Kentucky law enforcement.

Before his time in the Senate, Schroder was a felony prosecutor in Campbell County. Schroder prosecuted drug traffickers and criminals, working closely with law enforcement to protect Campbell County and advocate for victims of crime.

“I’m running for Campbell County Attorney to serve the community I care deeply about,” said Schroder in the release. “We need a proven leader who will stand strong against criminals while fighting for our conservative values.

Schroder is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Northern Kentucky University’s Chase College of Law. He and his wife, Marci, live in Wilder, where they are raising their three children and remain active in their church and school community. His late father, Wil Schroder, served nearly 30 years as a Northern Kentucky judge, including on the Kentucky Supreme Court, and his late mother was a dedicated schoolteacher.

Schroder will also have to file with Campbell County as a candidate to appear on the ballot in the May 2026 primary election. Candidates cannot file with the county until Nov. 5, 2025, and they have until Jan. 9, 2026.
