The City of Covington and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet released crash statistics for the redesigned 4th Street entrance ramp onto northbound I-71/I-75 on Tuesday. The ramp redesign began service in December 2022, and crash figures collected by Kentucky State Police and analyzed by the transportation cabinet showed an overall downward trend in crashes.
The cabinet’s analysis assessed northbound I-71/75 traffic between Eighth Street and the Kentucky-Ohio state line. It yielded the following results:
Dates Crashes and Injuries Dec. 6, 2020-Dec. 6, 2021 37 crashes and 3 injuries Dec. 6, 2021-Dec. 6, 2022 36 crashes and 3 injuries Dec. 6, 2022-Dec. 6 2023 21 crashes and 2 injuries
“With safety as our driving force, the Texas Turnaround was an innovative engineering solution that has proven to be effective in both increasing safety and reducing traffic congestion along a high-traffic corridor,” said Bob Yeager, Chief District Engineer of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6. “We are grateful for the collaboration and support from our great neighbors at the City of Covington to get the project done.”
