Rumpke Waste & Recycling held an opening ceremony for its new $8.2 million transfer station on Boron Drive in Covington last week.

The station replaces the previous station, located at the same site. Businesses in Covington and other cities from around the region deposit their waste at the station so Rumpke can then transport it to the landfill in Pendleton County, according to a press release.

“In 2020, Rumpke and the City of Covington expanded our partnership beyond our traditional curbside and dumpster service, taking over operations of the Covington Transfer Station and making plans to improve the facility and user experience,” said Adam Rumpke, region vice president in the same release. “This new facility greatly improves traffic flow, appearance, safety, citizen convenience and overall experience.”

The transfer station is part of a larger project that includes a $3 million renovation of the old Covington Public Works building. The company will eventually use the building to centralize its regional hauling operations. Construction is scheduled for completion by the middle of the year.
