Plans for a new park in Erlanger were presented at the city’s first council meeting of the year this week.

Chris Manning, principal of Cincinnati-based landscape planning firm Human Nature Inc., unveiled a comprehensive master plan to the council to transform the land at Houston North and Turfway Road into an interactive park called the Greenway at Dry Creek.

The vision encompasses a stretch from Dry Creek to the Ohio River, introducing amenities such as dog parks, bike and walk trails, event spaces, gardens, canopy walks, and outdoor event space. The event space within the park seeks to accommodate 50-75 individuals, providing a venue for community gatherings and festivities. Manning’s proposal also includes the installation of new bridges and shelters from the heat, some equipped with restrooms to enhance the visitor experience.

A focal point of the redevelopment is the Crown Pavilion. The Pavilion will serve as a hub for educational activities, including studying fossils and rocks from the area. There will be areas for public art, and underpass roads will double as canvases for public art, creating a vibrant and interactive atmosphere for residents and visitors. The project will engage local artists to contribute creativity to the park’s aesthetics.

“This will have a major impact on not only the city but the whole Northern Kentucky region,” Mayor Jessica Fette said. “The economic impact it can bring will serve the community well.”

The city will soon aim to gather feedback from the community to ensure the park meets the needs and desires of its diverse population. Additionally, local businesses will be encouraged to contribute to the initiative by planting trees around their business to enhance the area’s greenery and help mitigate water and sewage overflow.

The next phase of the project involves reaching out to stakeholders, designers, and potential partners—both private and public. As of now, the developers have not released any timeline for this project.
