The Northern Kentucky Health Department is encouraging celebrants to be aware of food safety measures during the Thanksgiving holiday season.
Raw meats including turkey should be kept separate from other foods and food preparation actions including the use of different cooking utensils, officials said.
Juices from raw meat may contain bacteria that result in foodborne illness.
In order to prevent food poisoning, in addition to separating, it is recommended hands, utensils and surfaces be washed often; foods be cooked to the right temperature; and foods be refrigerated and frozen properly, officials said.
