The Duke Energy Foundation issued a grant in June for $40,000 to Gateway Community & Technical College’s lineworker certificate program, according to a press release from the school.

“Funds from this year’s foundation grant will have an immediate impact on Gateway’s lineworker program,” the press release stated. “This summer, the college will install a number of new transformer trainers at its Boone campus, expanding the program’s class sizes, and allowing for an increase in the number of students per semester.”
The lineworker program was founded in 2020 and has received several grants from the Duke Energy Foundation over the past few years. According to Gateway’s release, about 70 students have earned certifications and found employment since the program’s inception.
