The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce has been tapped to host the 2023 National Civics Bee.
The competition is an initiative aimed at encouraging more young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities, per a release from the Chamber.
As one of six local chambers in Kentucky to host the event, the NKY Chamber is encouraging local middle school students from public, private, charter and home schools to take part in the first-round civics essay competition.
The top 20 students who complete a 500-word essay will move on to the final round: a live quiz show hosted by the Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement at Northern Kentucky University’s student union. The first-place winner of the competition earns $500 cash.
Student essay submissions are due Feb. 24. Full rules, prize information and essay topic guidelines can be found on the NKY Chamber website.
