A man accused of killing a 16-year-old girl is now in custody after police had been searching for him since the fatal shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. Tuesday.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Demarkus F. Hedges, 18, turned himself in to the United States Marshals Service in Covington.

The Marshals Service will lodge Hedges at the Boone County Detention Center, where he will be held on a $1,000,000 bond.

Boone County Sheriffs said they received a report of a person that had sustained a gun shot wound at approximately 2:18 a.m. Tuesday at 3015 Silver Brook Drive.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 16-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Through the investigation, detectives learned there was also an 18-year-old female, an 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old female hanging out with Hedges and the victim much of Monday evening into Tuesday morning.

According to their witness statements, a bag of marijuana fell on the bedroom floor and Hedges demanded the victim pick it up. The victim refused. Hedges then pointed his handgun at the victim’s head and fired one shot.

Hedges is charged with one count of murder, one count of tampering with physical evidence and two counts of unlawful transaction with a minor in the second degree.
