The city of Elsmere approved an agreement to administer the Housing Choice Vouchers program at their May 14 city council meeting.

The council unanimously voted to execute Municipal Order 10-2024, which authorizes an interlocal agreement with the Housing Authority of Covington to initiate the program in Elsmere.

The Housing Choice Vouchers, also known as Section 8, is a program by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to subsidize affordable housing for very low-income families, the elderly, the disabled and those with eligible immigrant status.

The city of Elsmere will receive federal funding to administer the vouchers, which pay a rent amount toward a participating family’s housing unit of choice. The program covers single-family homes, townhouses and apartments.

More information about the HCV program can be found on the Department of Housing and Urban Development website.
