The Kenton County Solid Waste Management (KCSWM) has partnered with Cohen Recycling, the City of Covington, and Keep Covington Beautiful to collect and properly recycle old holiday lights.
“Christmas lights can be disposed of in the trash but we would like to discourage that,” said Anna Miller administrative officer manager at KCSWM. “We would like to have residents recycle the Christmas lights through this program. This program allows for all kinds of Holiday lights and yard decorations to be recycled.”
From Dec. 1, 2022, to Feb. 1, 2023, holiday lights can be dropped off at various locations throughout Northern Kentucky.
There will be a friendly competition between Kenton, Boone, and Campbell Counties for the most recycled holiday lights.
“Artificial Christmas trees are made with PVC and other materials that can’t be recycled. However, some manufacturers and local recycling programs can process artificial Christmas trees and other decorations into reusable materials,” said Miller
Before recycling, please remove any boxes and bags.
