Thousands of books faced attempted bans last year, and “Banned Books Week” is putting those titles back in the spotlight.

The event takes place Sunday, Oct. 4 through Saturday, Oct. 10. The Campbell County Library Connections describes the event as a “joint effort between the American Library Association and the Banned Books Week Coalition; this advocacy campaign fights for intellectual freedom and against growing pressure of censorship through book bans.”

This year’s theme is “Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read.”

According to the library, in 2025, over 7,000 books were targeted by organized book ban campaigns, with some of the most popular targets being “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “A Court of Thorns and Roses,” and “Storm and Fury.”
