Rosella Porterfield Park will receive an upgrade to its playground equipment and overall appearance starting next week.
On Tuesday, Elsmere City Council invited the public to view renovation updates on Rosella Porterfield Park, including images of new equipment and a proposed layout presented by Public Works Director Chris Zerhusen.
“We’re bringing the playground out closer to the basketball [court],” said Zerhusen. “The entire park will be closed throughout the entire construction.”
Public works is set to begin the project on Sept. 8, with completion expected by mid-October.
Renovations for the playground will include taking out all the mulch, leveling the ground before adding new rubber surfacing, a concrete edge, a new playground set and new fencing. Benches will also be added for both the playground and the basketball court.
“That way, if you’re watching the kids, or if you’re watching a basketball game, you can do either one,” said Elsmere Mayor Marty Lenhof.
Street parking will not be available during construction, but normal traffic flow on Capitol Street will not be interrupted.
The basketball boards and the picnic area are not part of this renovation, but Zerhusen said it could be in the future.
