The Villa Hills City Council appointed Corey Shaw as the city’s new public works director during its Aug. 24 meeting, following the retirement of longtime director Derick Yelton after 38 years of service.
Shaw, who has worked in the city’s public works department for 26 years, was formally appointed through a municipal order and took the oath of office during the meeting.
“Welcome,” Mayor Jansen said following the swearing-in ceremony.
Derick Yelton, known as “Buck,” retired after nearly four decades with the city. His retirement marked the end of a long tenure overseeing Park Hills’ public works operations.
Shaw’s appointment puts him in charge of the department as he takes over responsibilities Yelton previously handled. His 26 years of experience with the city’s public works department give him extensive familiarity with the department and its operations.
The council then continued with other routine municipal business following the swearing-in ceremony.
