The City of Union has designated Sept. 17 through 23 as Constitution Week, honoring the 233rd anniversary of the drafting of the U.S. Constitution.

During a commission meeting on Monday, Aug. 17, Union Mayor Larry Solomon read a proclamation encouraging residents and city officials to reflect on the rights and responsibilities bestowed by the U.S. Constitution.

The proclamation invites residents and city representatives to participate in local activities, events and ceremonies honoring the document’s significance. Union’s observance corresponds with Public Law 915, which requires an annual presidential proclamation to honor Constitution Week.

Three members of the Boone County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution — Bridget Striker, Lynne Demi, and Peggy Kennedy — were in attendance for the proclamation’s reading.

The Daughters of the American Revolution describes itself as a heritage organization that promotes patriotism and preserves American history.
