Judith “Judy” Klappert Stephenson, a beloved fifth-grade teacher in Fort Thomas, died on Saturday at the age of 82.
Originally from Pleasant Ridge, Stephenson lived in Fort Thomas for fifty years. She taught fifth grade at Ruth Moyer Elementary School for 25 years, where she was known among the students as “Miz S.” She earned her master’s degree in education from NKU.
She and her husband, Bill Stephenson, were known for decorating their house on Halloween, dressing in makeup, and staging elaborate skits and candy hand-outs for the holiday. “To this day, their neighborhood still draws hundreds of trick-or-treaters, as Judy’s former students — now parents themselves — return with their own children for nostalgia’s sake,” according to Stephenson’s obituary.
A visitation will take place Friday, Aug. 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dobbling Funeral Home in Fort Thomas. The eulogy will begin at 6:30 p.m. A graveside committal service will take place at noon the following Saturday at St. Stephen Cemetery on Madison Pike.
