Starting this week and continuing through November, there will be several detours along Mary Ingles Highway.
The detours are due to an upcoming roadway rehabilitation project that is expected to begin on Aug. 5 and will include repairing several slide locations, replacing pipe and guardrails and milling/paving operations in the project area to improve safety for all road users, according to the Kentucky Transportation Department.
The project will be from north of Union Street in California (15.93 mile point) to north of the Campbell/Pendleton County line (19.36), a distance of 3.43 miles.
Beginning Wednesday, crews will block both sides of the project to through traffic. This closure will remain in place until the pipe replacement and slide repair portion of the project is completed. Local traffic will have access maintained up until the work location. A signed detour will be in place for through traffic utilizing KY 1996, AA Highway and KY 735.
Due to the number of slide repairs needed in this area, the work location will shift as the project progresses, which will shift the local traffic closure. Signage will be in place to warn motorists of the closure.
Once pipe replacements and slide repair work are complete, crews will shift to milling/paving operations. This portion of the work will require daytime single-lane closures with flaggers on-site to direct traffic around the work zone.
Eaton Asphalt Paving Co., Inc. is contracted to perform the $2.02 million project on behalf of KYTC. Weather permitting, the overall project has an expected completion date of Nov. 1.
