Independence Police, Kenton County Police and the Kenton County Sheriff’s Office will use Twenhofel Middle School in Independence to perform active shooter response training exercises on Tuesday.

“As part of this training, community members may observe an increased police presence in the area surrounding Twenhofel Middle School and Hickory Grove Baptist Church,” according to a press release from Independence PD. “Residents and motorists should not be alarmed by the presence of law enforcement vehicles, officers and other emergency personnel in the area.”

The training aims to give police practice in responding to active shooter incidents.

“Exercises such as this allow participating agencies to evaluate response procedures,
communication, coordination and overall readiness in a controlled environment.” Drivers moving through the area may need to follow instructions from officers directing traffic.
