The Boone County Public Library Foundation has been awarded a $5,000 grant to support the installation of filament recycling units in the library’s Boone Innovation Labs.
The funding, which comes from Kentucky Colonels’ Good Works Program, will enable the Library to transform discarded plastic from 3D printing into reusable filament,
reducing material waste while expanding hands-on learning opportunities.
“We are grateful to the Kentucky Colonels Good Works Program for investing in innovative projects that benefit our community,” Boone County Public Library Foundation President Pat Raverty said in a news release. “This grant allows us to expand educational opportunities in our Boone Innovation Labs while demonstrating how technology and sustainability can work hand-in-hand.”
The Library Foundation believes that by recycling used filament, Boone Innovation Labs will provide patrons with a firsthand look at a closed-loop recycling system for 3D-printing materials, help lower material costs, and serve as a sustainability educational tool.
The Kentucky Colonels’ Good Works Program is a charitable grant initiative that provides financial support for statewide grassroots organizations.
