Editor’s note: This article originally incorrectly reported that Bellevue Independent Schools Superintendent Misty Middleton told the school board that the renovations on the rubberized track were complete. The story has been updated.
Renovations at three Bellevue Independent Schools facilities are nearing completion more than a year behind schedule, officials said.
Superintendent Misty Middleton told the district’s board of directors last week that final work is slated for completion before school starts on Aug. 19, though it’s unclear whether contractors will meet that deadline.
“Punch list items are being completed. We really are at the very end, it’s just getting some things done,” Middleton said during a July 15 board of directors meeting.
Renovations to Grandview Elementary School were budgeted for $12.7 million and funded by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2022. Construction for those upgrades began in June 2024 and includes heating, ventilation and air conditioning and fire suppression systems, new flooring, new lighting, kitchen and cafeteria renovations, along with updated learning spaces.
Leo Gilligan Field and Ben Flora Gymnasium renovations, budgeted for $8.4 million, were funded by bonds.
Renovations at Leo Gillian Field, which is 90 years old, include a rubberized track, which has yet to be completed. Remaining work includes surfacing and striping the track, according to Middleton.
Renovations at Ben Flora Gymnasium, which is 54 years old, include upgrades to the locker rooms, lobbies and public restrooms.
