Father Hanses Park, located at the intersections of Hermes Avenue and West 11th Street in Covington’s Lewisburg neighborhood, will officially be getting new playground equipment.

The Covington Board of Commissioner approved the roughly $63,000 purchase of new equipment on Tuesday. The money will come from federal Community Development Block Grant dollars, which are awarded to the city every year.

The park is named after Monsignor Henry Hanses, who was a pastor at St. John Catholic Church. Much of the equipment is outdated, and the new equipment will be provided by Tennessee-based company Gametime, which has also done work at parks in Louisville, Paducah and Cincinnati.

The work will include all new playground equipment, as well as new basketball equipment.

A representative from the city said the equipment will take between six to eight weeks to ship, so swapping out the new equipment will likely occur sometime in July.
