A 16-year-old boy has died after a crash on Bullittsville Road in Hebron Sunday night, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
Zachary Snyder was a passenger in a car whose driver “failed to navigate a sharp right-hand curve in the road,” according to deputies, causing the vehicle to leave the road and overturn.
Snyder was ejected from the car, according to the sheriff’s office, and became trapped under the vehicle, where he eventually died. Deputies were called to the scene around 10:34 p.m. Snyder was declared dead at the scene.
“(The driver) failed to navigate a sharp right-hand curve in the road, proceeded left of the center line, over-corrected and exited the roadway on the right side,” according to the sheriff’s office. “The vehicle struck several trees and overturned. The vehicle came to rest on its top.”
The driver and two passengers in the back seat, a 17-year-old male from Burlington and an 18-year-old female from Hebron (neither of whom has been named), left the vehicle on their own and were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff.
Speed likely contributed to the crash, according to the sheriff’s office, and neither Snyder nor the driver was wearing a seat belt.
The road was reopened to traffic around 3:05 a.m. Monday morning. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
