The Crescent Springs City Council voted to table an ordinance that would have enacted one-way road conversions in Old Crescent Springs this week.
The specific affected roads are Audrey Terrace, Euclid Avenue, Estelle Avenue, Jefferson Street, Gibson Place and Enid Avenue.
The conversions have been touted as a way to improve safety, address storm water and other drainage problems and improve traffic. Initial studies of the conversions date back to March of last year. The one-way conversions were initially recommended to the City Council in January, and the ordinance to enact the conversions was first introduced in February.
Residents came out to speak about the issue on Monday, when the final vote on the conversion was set to take place. Opinions were mixed; many were in favor of the conversion, but several questioned if it was necessary.
The motion to table was introduced by Council Member Jeff Smith.
“I ask that (the ordinance) be tabled until infrastructure improvements are realized and put on paper plans, as well as an estimate for the road improvements because I don’t believe we’ve seen any numbers as far as what this project may or may not cost,” Smith said.
Smith also recommended that a new survey be sent to the residents on the proposed one-way streets. Smith and Council Members Jeannine Bell-Smith, Mark Wurtenberger and Don Kiely voted in favor of tabling. Council Members Bob Mueller and Carol McGowan voted against tabling.
The council will revisit the issue in the coming weeks. You can view and download the most recent conversion proposal below.
