The Ion Center for Violence Prevention, a nonprofit that provides various services for victims of domestic violence, will participate in the annual Shop & Share program on Saturday.
Community members who wish to participate can buy supplies at local Kroger stores and then hand them off to volunteers at the stores, who will deliver them to the Ion Center.
“We know we can measurably reduce the number of people hurt by violence, but we need everyone’s help,” said Ion Center CEO Christy Burch. “The importance of an event like Shop & Share cannot be overstated. It takes more than 150 volunteers to make this event possible, and this one day fills the shelves of our shelters’ pantries for the entire year, so we are able to focus on other things. It’s really a remarkable day.”
Kroger volunteers will deliver donated supplies to a secondary drop off location at the Newport Car Barn. ION Center volunteers will then sort and package the supplies for delivery to the ION Center’s shelters.
