Several candidates have entered the race for Florence City Council, while incumbent Mayor Julie Metzger Aubuchon faces her first challenger.

Joe Berkshire and Duane Froelicher have officially filed to run for Florence City Council, according to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance. They join incumbents Lesley Chambers and Angie Cable as candidates.

The Florence City Council consists of six members elected at large, each representing the city as a whole rather than a specific district. Council members serve two-year terms, with elections held during the city’s regular municipal election cycle.

In addition, David Rose has announced his candidacy for mayor of Florence. Rose will face off against incumbent mayor Julie Metzger Aubuchon.

The mayor, who is also elected citywide for a four-year term, presides over meetings and acts as the city’s chief elected official.

The deadline for candidates to file for the 2026 election cycle is Jan. 9, by 4 p.m.
