Longtime Kenton County Commissioner Beth Sewell announced she would seek reelection in 2026.

Sewell, who was first elected to the fiscal court in 2010, represents Kenton County’s 1st District. Kenton County commissioners serve four-year terms. Candidates can begin filing for election on Wednesday, November 5.

Sewell announced her reelection bid during a fiscal court meeting on Oct. 28.

“The other thing I wanted to say is I just wanted to officially declare tonight that it’s my intention to seek reelection for county commissioner in 2026,” Sewell said. “It’s hard to believe that it’s that time again, but I just wanted to make it official here tonight.”

Sewell serves alongside Kenton County Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann and Commissioners Jon Draud and Joe Nienaber on the county’s fiscal court, which oversees county departments, prepares the budget and executes ordinances.

In addition her reelection announcement, Sewell also revealed that District 2 Commissioner Joe Nienaber will not be running for another term. Nienaber has been a member of the fiscal court since 2014 and had previously indicated during fiscal court meetings that he might not seek reelection.
