Highland Heights saw what the next phase of The Commons at Highland Heights could look like at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
The next phase, named Phase 1A, if approved, would add a new playground, new hammock spaces, a fire pit and more. The section of the park is located just steps away from Northern Kentucky University’s Callahan Hall.

“Getting the pickleball courts in was our first priority this year, but the proposed work around the courts will really bring this space to life,” City Administrator Michael Giffen Said.
Giffen said that the space will have something for everyone to enjoy.
“We feel like everyone in the community will find segments of this enhanced space that will be tailored specifically for them. We hope to see all of them out and enjoying the space,” Giffen said.
If the plans are approved, construction on The Commons could begin as early as spring 2026.
