The playground surface safety material at Memorial Park in Independence is being swapped out, according to a social media announcement from the city.
“The playgrounds at Memorial Park are getting a facelift!” the announcement reads. “The crumb rubber mulch is being removed and replaced with a new poured-in-place play surface.”
The project, which began Wednesday, is funded through a grant from the Commonwealth of Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet Department of Environmental Protection and aims to create a more accessible park for all age groups and demographics.
Memorial Park is the largest park in the city of Independence, spanning about 26 acres. It’s located behind the city building.
