Covington Independent Public Schools will celebrate its 200th anniversary at a special ceremony coinciding with staff opening day on Monday. The event’s headline speaker will be Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman.
“This celebration is more than a reflection of our history; it’s a recognition of the generations of students, educators and community members who have shaped Covington Schools into what it is today,” according to a press release from the district. “We are proud of our past and excited about our future.”
Staff members will meet in the Holmes High School auditorium on Monday morning. Following a meal and the ceremony and speech, they will then head out to the football field to pose for a special commemorative photo arranged in the shape of the numeral ‘200.’ The district will host other special events and programs throughout the school year, as well, to honor its bicentennial.
