A woman has died after she was hit by a driver in Covington Thursday evening, according to police.

Covington police said 63-year-old Krista Mary Wilmink, of Covington, died from her injuries after she was taken to UC Medical Center.

According to a press release from the Covington Police Department, officers were called to the 1300 block of West Pike Street at 7:21 p.m. for reports of a woman struck by a vehicle.

When officers arrived on scene they discovered an adult woman suffering from multiple life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of the striking car remained on scene and was fully cooperating with the investigation.

Police said they do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash, but they are still investigating other details of the crash, like whether speed played a part.

West Pike Street was closed in the area while investigators processed the scene; The roadway reopened just before 11 p.m. Thursday night.
