A temporary “safety zone” and river closure will be established on the Ohio and Licking Rivers this weekend.
The closures will be on the Ohio River (mile marker 469.5 to 470.5) and the Licking River (mile marker 0.0 to 0.3) on Saturday, Aug. 9, from noon to 5 p.m. to ensure public safety during the Red Bull Flugtag event.
Recreational vessels may enter the safety zone before noon to watch the event, but must remain anchored throughout the closure period. Vessels will not be permitted to move within the safety zone unless authorized by the U.S. Coast Guard on Marine Channel 69 or a vessel enforcing the closure during this time.
Commercial vessel traffic is prohibited in the safety zone during this time unless authorized by the captain of the Port of Ohio Valley or a designated representative.
Local and federal first responder agencies will be actively patrolling the area throughout the event to enforce the river closure and provide emergency response support if needed.
Boaters and spectators are asked to plan ahead and cooperate with authorities to ensure a safe and successful event on the river.
